Creative planting schemes

Stunning planting combinations are only achieved through the blend of design skills along with the horticultural knowledge needed to produce a plan that gives a balance of architectural shapes with dramatic bursts of seasonal colour. The proportions of structural plants including trees, evergreens, shrubs and grasses against the softer perennial plants need to be correct to give shape to the garden all year round.

Planting schemes are designed for your individual requirements, and to solve problems on-site such as floods, shade and drought. A focus on year-round colour and interest is a focus of all our schemes, with typical favourites in shades of Purples, Blues and Whites, or specific colour-themed planting  - such as ‘The White Garden’ or more contemporary choices such as a ‘bruised Pink and Chocolate’ colourway.

Site survey

Stage 1 — The first step is to survey the area, taking measurements of the planting beds and photographs of the garden. Soil samples are taken in several places to identify the soil type, the aspect noted and amount of light and damp across the space is reviewed. This information enables the right plants to be chosen for the site.

Planting scheme

Stage 2 — Planting schemes are prepared, with detailed layout plans and individual plants represented by circles, including plant varieties and species, quantities and spacing. Plant images are collated to help visualise the scheme, and a full schedule of plants documented. Illustrated maintenance plans ensure the garden can be kept as planned.

Sourcing plants

Stage 3 — Plant schedules are sent to local trade nurseries for pricing and availability, and a combination of several nurseries may have to be used to source all the required plants. Deliveries are organised to arrive on-site where the plants are laid out in the exact positions ready to plant. Planting can be arranged if required.
